To vaccinate or not to vaccinate?
-----------------------------------
I had a question from a reader wondering if she should
be giving her 4 year old Min Pin the combination
boosters of Rabies, Plus Distemper, Adenovirus,
Parainfluenza and Parvovirus.
Her dog has been getting yearly combination vaccines
on the advice of her veterinarian.
My suggestions..
NO
DON'T give the entire combination, ESPECIALLY to
a mature dog that has had their puppy boosters.
This also applies to cats- Both cats and dogs are
WELL protected after their initial puppy and kitten
boosters.
The select few vaccines should then ONLY be given
every 3 years...DON'T use these MULTIVALENT Vaccines.
In my humble opinion, this combination of vaccines
is doing More HARM, than good.
The POINT of the Vaccines is to prevent disease..
NOT cause them.
And the vaccines that are used should be for those
diseases that your dog or cat has a potential chance
of contracting.
TRANSLATION: Less number of vaccines, LESS often.
IF you really want to keep your dog or cat healthy focus
on a few common sense principles:
1.
Better Diet - Less Kibble, Some Home Made and Raw Food
If feeding Kibble ensure that it is as 'Natural' as possible.
2.
Supplement - a quality complete dog or cat supplement
3. Limit the Conventional Medication such as Steroids or
Anti-inflammatories. Use alternatives when possible.
4. More exercise
5. Limit environmental toxins- Don't spray your lawn for instance.
6. The Mental side...Love your pet. Spend positive time with
them. IF you are one of those overscheduled people of the world,
take a hard look at What you REALLY value, for this is probably
shortening your life as well.
