Today's newsletter is my rant on Obnoxious Landlords who are making it virtually IMPOSSIBLE to rent a suite if you happen to be a Pet Owner.

My small town has FAR more Renters than Rental Accommodation. Hence the Landlords..( and Slumlords) can make whatever demands they want and NOT rent to people with pets.

My experience as a Renter was that if I told them that I had a pet, than look out. I would not even have a chance at renting their unit. In My experience, MOST Pet Owners are VERY RESPONSIBLE and make GREAT tenants. They are responsible for more than just themselves.

A Landlord may have had ONE bad experience, then he/she bars ALL Pet owners. Is this Right? NO

Is this Legal? YES

What does this tell me? That we as a Society still have a LONG way to go in recognizing that Pets are members of our family- they are NOT just things.

IF a Landlord were to Kick out a Renter because they had Children, do You think there might be some big Legal Action? YES

IF the Landlord does the same thing to Pet Guardians, then what do you think happens? NOTHING

The Moral of Today's Newsletter? If you are a Landlord Give Pet Owners equal consideration. ASK the Pet Owners for References. Get them to Pay a Pet Damage Deposit.
